2014 VC Star All-County Girls Track Team

ZARIA FRANCISCAMARILLO100Francis was the fastest girl in Ventura County this season, winning the county championship in the 100 meters in 11.85 seconds. A week later, Francis she added the Pacific View League title, winning the event in that meet in 12.09. The 5-foot-1, 109-pound sophomore took third place in the CIF-SS Division 1 finals in 11.87 seconds. Her best time in the 100 came a week before at the prelims, where she crossed the finish line in 11.74 seconds. Francis showed her versatility throughout the year, also competing well in the 200 (24.03 best), the long jump (16-9½) and as part of the 4x100 relay (48.03). Francis enjoys reading and listening to music. Her favorite movie is “The Village” and she likes watching “Sex and the City” reruns on TV. SCHUYLER MOORE  OAKS CHRISTIAN  200  Only a sophomore, Moore won 200-meter titles at the Ventura County Championships (24.57) and the Russell Cup. She also was part of the Lions’ winning 4x400 relay at the county meet, finished in a dead heat with Westlake’s Abigail Smith for the 100-meter title (11.87) at the Russell Cup. Moore was named Oaks Christian’s Athlete/Sprinter of the Year after adding the CIF-Southern Section Division 4 championship in the 100 meters to her collection (11.93). Listing her hobbies, Moore jokingly listed “long walks on the beach,” “eating” and “sleeping,” but also listed reading and hanging out with friends. Her favorite movie is “Pitch Perfect” and her favorite band is One Direction. Moore’s favorite dish is pasta, she likes rooting for the New England Patriots and her favorite athlete is Allyson Felix.  ROB VARELA/THE STAR

 

SCHUYLER MOORE- 200 METER DASH

OAKS CHRISTIAN

Moore won the CIF-SS Division 4 championship in the 400, turning in a time of 24.08 seconds, her season best. She also finished second in the 100 and was part of both Oaks Christian relays to help the Lions win the Division 4 title. Moore had a ninth-place 200 finish at the state meet in 24.44. At the Tri-Valley League meet, the 5-foot-10, 148-pound junior won both the 200 and the 100. She was also the county champion in the 200 (24.31). Moore likes reading, hanging out with friends, going to the beach, watching movies and shopping. She enjoys watching “Breaking Bad” and “The Proposal” is her favorite movie. Beyoncé is her favorite singer and she roots for Allyson Felix and the San Francisco 49ers.

SARAH JOHNSONOAKS CHRISTIAN400Johnson, a junior, won the CIF-SS Division 4 championship in the 400 in a time of 54.60 seconds, helping lift Oaks Christian to the Division 4 team title. She duplicated her 54.60 time two weeks later and took fourth place in the CIF State Championships. SARAH BAXTERSIMI VALLEY3,200, 1,600Baxter’s quest for her fourth straight state title in the 3,200 meters was cut heartbreakingly short due to a stress reaction injury in her left leg. After finishing in a remarkable dead heat with Bethan Knights of Irvine-Northwood at the Mount Carmel Invitational in March, both crossing the finish line in 10 minutes, 7.52 seconds, Baxter did not compete in the event again until May in the Marmonte League Championships, where she won in 10:48.79. However, the injury flared up again and Baxter decided to cut her high school career short after winning the CIF-SS Division 2 prelims in 10:30.78. Baxter, The Star’s Girls Track Athlete of the Year for three years straight, also led the county in the 1,600 meters, turning in a time of 4:58.41 against Thousand Oaks on March 20. Baxter will compete for the University of Oregon next fall. Her hobbies include reading, playing with her cat, hiking, camping, singing and dancing. Baxter’s favorite TV show is “Bones” and her favorite singer is Katy Perry. SARAH BAXTER- 1600 & 3200 METER RUN

SIMI VALLEY

Baxter’s quest for her fourth straight state title in the 3,200 meters was cut heartbreakingly short due to a stress reaction injury in her left leg. After finishing in a remarkable dead heat with Bethan Knights of Irvine-Northwood at the Mount Carmel Invitational in March, both crossing the finish line in 10 minutes, 7.52 seconds, Baxter did not compete in the event again until May in the Marmonte League Championships, where she won in 10:48.79. However, the injury flared up again and Baxter decided to cut her high school career short after winning the CIF-SS Division 2 prelims in 10:30.78. Baxter, The Star’s Girls Track Athlete of the Year for three years straight, also led the county in the 1,600 meters, turning in a time of 4:58.41 against Thousand Oaks on March 20. Baxter will compete for the University of Oregon next fall. Her hobbies include reading, playing with her cat, hiking, camping, singing and dancing. TARA DAVIS AGOURA 100 HURDLES, TRIPLE JUMP Only a freshman, Davis is The Star’s Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year for her versatility that also includes the long jump and the 4x100-meter relay for the Chargers. Individually, Davis took seventh place in the triple jump in her first CIF State Championships at 38-9¼ and was also third in the long jump at 19-5½. At the CIF-SS Division 2 finals, Davis was second in the 100 hurdles in 14.50 seconds, second in the triple jump at 39-9½ and also was runner-up in the long jump at 19-3. She won the Marmonte League championship in the 100 hurdles (14.57) and the triple jump (36-0¾) and was second in the long jump (18-11½). Davis was a triple winner at the Ventura County Championships, taking the 100 hurdles (14.36), the triple jump (39-8) and the long jump (19-5½). Davis lists baking, eating and texting as her hobbies. Her favorite TV shows are “Catfish” and “Orange Is the New Black” and her favorite movie is “Fired Up!” She likes rooting for the Dallas Cowboys and listening to Iggy Azalea. Only a freshman, Davis is The Star’s Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year for her versatility that also includes the long jump and the 4x100-meter relay for the Chargers. That was the same height that gave Beattie the meet and stadium record at the Ventura Invitational. She has a GPA of 4.18 and is a California Scholarship Federation member. Beattie enjoys painting and watching “New Girl” on TV. Her favorite movie is “Forrest Gump” and her favorite dish is a grilled cheese sandwich with chocolate milk. Craft won the Marmonte League title in 10-9 and qualified for the CIF-SS Division 2 Championships by placing fourth in the prelims at 11-0. The 5-foot-6, 130-pound Craft enjoys reading, music and going to the beach, along with eating frozen yogurt, listening to Young the Giant and watching “Boy Meets World.” Her favorite movie is “The Sandlot” and she likes rooting for the Dodgers and pro surfer Bethany Hamilton.

Richards became the fourth best long jumper in Ventura County history and eighth best in the state this season with a leap of 19-7½ at the Mount SAC Relays. Richards placed third in the CIF-SS Division 2 finals at 18-11¾. She won the Marmonte League championship at 19-0¾ and was second in the Ventura County Championships at 19-4½. Richards also was No. 4 this season among county sprinters in the 100 meters at 12.19 seconds to win the league title. Richards, a 5-foot-6, 105-pound senior who is headed to USC, is a Ronald Reagan Student Leader Award winner. The student body president graduated with honors with a 4.26 GPA. Richards enjoys going to Disneyland and spending time with her family and friends. “Modern Family” is her favorite TV show and she likes watching Disney movies and listening to Iggy Azalea. Her favorite food is sushi and the athlete she most admires is U.S. long jumper Brittney Reese.

Mader, a junior, was CIF-SS Division 1 champion in the discus with a throw of 145-7. She took second in the shot put in 45-0½. She continued to gain experience at the CIF State Championships, earning a podium appearance by finishing third in the discus in 147-4 and also taking sixth in the shot put at 44-6¾. Mader defended her shot put title in the Marmonte League Championships at 45-9 and also won the discus at 142-9½. She ranked No. 4 in the state in the discus with her 148-4 throw at the CIF-SS Division 2 prelims and seventh in the state in the shot put with a 45-11½ mark at the Maurice Greene Invitational. Mader, who had a 4.0 GPA this year, enjoys working out, going to the beach and playing with her dogs.
