AHMED OBED- 100 & 200 METER DASH
CAMARILLO
Obed captured sixth place in the 200 at the CIF State Championships with a time of 21.38 seconds. He won the Division 1 100 meters at the CIF-SS finals in 10.73 seconds, where he also finished second in the 200 in a season-best 21.07. His best time in the 100 was a wind-aided 10.66 against Oxnard. The 6-foot-2, 165-pound senior is headed for Harvard as an honors graduate and an AP scholar award winner. Obed lists hiking, biking and video games as his hobbies. His favorite TV show is “Supernatural” and “The Last Samurai” is his favorite movie. He says Muscle Milk is his favorite food and Michael Jackson is his top singer. Sprinter Wallace Spearmon is his favorite athlete.

RYAN FINCH- 400 METER DASH
WESTLAKE
Finch took second place in the CIF-SS Division 2 Championships in 47.92 seconds. He won the Marmonte League title in 48.27 seconds and defended his Ventura County Championships title in 48.73. His best time of the season came at the CIF-SS Masters Meet, 47.86, which is the fourth best in county history. He also ran the 800 for Westlake where his best time was 1:56.06. The 6-foot-2, 150-pound junior is a scholar-athlete with a 4.0 GPA. Finch’s hobbies include pingpong and bodyboarding. His favorite TV show is “Blue Mountain State” and “Lone Survivor” is his top movie. His favorite dish is barbecued chicken pizza. Derek Jeter and the Yankees are his favorite athlete and team.

SAHM BAZARGAN- 800 METER RUN
OAK PARK
Bazargan took second place in the boys 800 meters in the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 finals with a time of 1 minute, 53.32 seconds. The senior was also the Tri-Valley League champion in the event in 1:57.37 and won at the Ventura County Championships in 1:54.27. The 5-foot-10, 150-pounder plans to go to UCLA. His hobbies include mountain biking, longboarding, spearfishing and skiing. His favorite movie is “21 Jump Street” and his favorite TV show is “Family Guy.” Bazargan enjoys pasta, listening to Pink Floyd and rooting for Usain Bolt.

JIMMY FITZGERALD- 1600 METER RUN
RIO MESA
FitzGerald, a junior, took fifth place in the CIF-SS Division 2 Championships with a time of 4:16.70. His best time in the event in 2014 was 4:15.72. FitzGerald won the Pacific View League title in the event by 11 seconds, finishing in a meet-record 4:21.04, and was also league champion in the 800 at 1:57.55. The 5-foot-11, 140-pounder was the county champion in the 1,600 in 4:20.79. FitzGerald enjoys surfing and watching “Breaking Bad” and “American Hustle.” He likes listening to Jack Johnson and his favorite food is pasta. He roots for the Green Bay Packers and U.S. 1,500-meter runner Matt Centrowitz.

MIKEY GIGUERE- 3200 METER RUN
WESTLAKE
Giguere took fourth place in the 3,200 CIF-SS Division 2 Championships at 9:17.68. That followed his second consecutive Marmonte League title in 9:24.30, helping to lead the Warriors to the team crown. Giguere’s best time in the 3,200 came at the Arcadia Invitational where he finished in 9:16.58. His best time in the 1,600 was 4:16.08 and he had a 1:56.28 in the 800. The 5-foot-7, 125-pound senior, who was The Star’s Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year, will be attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo after earning membership in the California Scholarship Federation and being a scholar-athlete in all eight semesters. Giguere enjoys slacklining and playing pingpong. His favorite food is pizza, his top TV show is “Top Gear” and his favorite movie is “The Shawshank Redemption.” The athlete he admires most is U.S. 1,500-meter runner Matt Centrowitz.

ALEX BILLING- 110 METER HURDLES
SIMI VALLEY
Billing nabbed third place in the CIF State Championships with a time of 14.01 seconds, which tied for his best time of the season and gave him the No. 5 time in the state. Billing captured the CIF-SS Division 2 title in 14.18 seconds. He first set the 14.01 time in winning the Marmonte League championship. Billing was also the Ventura County Championships winner in 14.19 seconds. The 6-foot-1, 145-pound junior is a three-time scholar-athlete and lists cycling and spelunking as his hobbies. “Elementary” is his favorite TV show, “Into the Wild” is his favorite movie and he likes listening to The Postal Service. Chocolate is his favorite food. His favorite team is UCLA and his top athlete is Chinese hurdler Liu Xiang. |

SEAN O'BRYAN- 300 METER HURDLES
WESTLAKE
O’Bryan placed fourth in the CIF-SS Division 2 Championships with a time of 38.87 seconds. He was the Marmonte League champion in 38.86 and the Ventura County champion in 39.07. O’Bryan’s best time of the year in the event came at the Mount SAC Relays, where he turned in a clocking of 38.45. The 6-foot-2, 145-pound senior is headed for the U.S. Air Force Academy, scoring 1,930 on the SAT and earning a 3.5 weighted GPA. O’Bryan’s hobbies are swimming, traveling and hiking. He likes watching “Game of Thrones” and “Breaking Bad” and eating sushi. His favorite athletes are former Newbury Park star Jenny Kenyon and Olympic hurdler and bobsledder Lolo Jones. |

BRYCE FAUSSET- HIGH JUMP
VENTURA
Fausett qualified for the CIF state championships after producing a mark of 6-7 at the CIF-SS Masters Meet. Fausset tied for fifth in the CIF-SS Division 1 finals at 6-5. Fausset, a 6-foot-3, 160-pound sophomore, won the Channel League title in the high jump and took second in the Ventura County Championships at 6-2. Fausset is an honor-roll student with a 3.8 GPA. His hobbies include playing basketball, hanging out with friends, listening to Gavin DeGraw and 3 Doors Down and watching “Survivor.” He roots for USC and Oregon. His favorite movie is “21 Jump Street” and his favorite dish is steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. |

JAKE DAVID- POLE VAULT
VENTURA
David, The Star’s Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year, was the county’s top finisher at the CIF State Championships, taking second place in the pole vault at 16-6. The most impressive thing about his season, however, was the CIF-SS Division 1 Championships, where he set an all-time Ventura County record of 17-1 and won the event. It came less than an hour after Thousand Oaks’ Luigi Colella had won the Division 2 title at 17-0¾ and became the first county athlete ever to clear the 17-foot mark. David was the Channel League champion at 15-0 and second to Colella in the Ventura County Championships (16-5).

GREG VANN- TRIPLE JUMP
RIO MESA
Vann burst onto the scene after recovering from a quad injury, setting a Division 2 record at the CIF-SS Championships at Cerritos College and winning the long jump in 24-6. That was the fifth best mark in the state this season. The 5-foot-10, 135-pound junior was fourth at the CIF State Championships in Clovis in 23-7. Vann won the Ventura County Championships in the long jump at 23-4½ and took second place at the Pacific View League finals in 22-1½. Vann enjoys listening to music, hanging out with friends, watching movies and playing sports. His favorite food is steak and his favorite athlete is NBA guard Nate Robinson.

IDREES BERNARD- TRIPLE JUMP
AGOURA
Bernard, a 6-foot-1, 150-pound senior headed for Washington State, finished seventh at the CIF State Championships with a leap of 48 feet, 3 inches. He was the Division 2 champion in the CIF-Southern Section finals with a triple jump of 48-4¾ and was fourth in the long jump at 23-0½. Bernard also won the Marmonte League championship in the triple jump (47-7½) and the long jump (22-9¼), and was the Ventura County champion in the triple jump (48-5). His hobbies include word and Sudoku puzzles and his favorite athletes are French triple jumper Teddy Tamgho and NFL running back Adrian Peterson. He likes watching “Survivor,” “The Apprentice,” “Planet of the Apes” and the “Rush Hour” series. Bernard enjoys listening to Chance The Rapper, rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles and eating cookies, pizza and fish tacos.

KEVIN UEBELHARDT- SHOT PUT
MOORPARK
Uebelhardt, a versatile athlete who excelled in the discus as well as the shot put, had a best of 52-5 in the shot put this season, best of any shot putter in Ventura County, and won the Marmonte League championship with a throw of 50-6½. He also won the league discus competition in 157-9. He took second place in the shot put at the Ventura County Championships at 49-8. Uebelhardt took eighth place in the CIF-SS Division 2 discus at 141-10. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound senior will attend the U.S. Naval Academy in the fall. Academically, Uebelhardt was on the Ventura County Office of Education’s Focus Team, he received a Reagan Foundation Award and was named a National Football Foundation Scholar. In addition, he was on the All-Ventura County Academic Football Team and on the school honor roll all eight semesters. Uebelhardt likes hiking, fishing and shooting. “Breaking Bad” is his favorite TV show and “Tombstone” is his favorite movie. George Strait is his top singer and his favorite athlete is LeBron James. |

ZACK BORNSTEIN- DISCUS
OAKS CHRISTIAN
It’s not easy to pick Bornstein in just one event because the 6-foot-4, 225-pound senior is training as a decathlete. Bornstein was second in the discus at the CIF-SS Division 4 Championships at 165-1 and at the same meet he took third in the 110 hurdles (14.99) and third in the shot put (51-9½). Bornstein won the Tri-Valley League championship in the discus, shot put, pole vault and 110 hurdles. He was also the Ventura County champion in the discus (172-1) and the shot put (51-3½). Bornstein, who is headed to UCLA, was outstanding male athlete in the Covina Invitational and was champion of the Great Southwest Decathlon in New Mexico. He was named Oaks Christian’s boys track MVP and received the Dallas Athletic Distinction Award. Not surprisingly, Bornstein’s favorite movie is “Gladiator.” He enjoys deep-sea fishing, watching “Game of Thrones,” “The Walking Dead” and “Family Guy” on TV and listening to Linkin Park, Ed Sheeran and Drake. His favorite foods are steak, Hawaiian pizza and pasta. His favorite team is the San Francisco 49ers and he likes Detroit wide receiver Calvin Johnson and U.S. decathlete Bryan Clay. |
